So much so of the US “humanitarian aid” to Venezuela
Dr Bahij H Sakakini
The US actions and statements coming from the American political elite do not leave you with any doubt about their hypocrisy and double standards when dealing with world affairs including humanitarian aid.
Secretary of State Pompeo tweeted recently “The Venezuelan people desperately need humanitarian aid. The U.S. & other countries are trying to help, but Venezuela’s military under Maduro's orders is blocking aid with trucks and shipping tankers. The Maduro regime must LET THE AID REACH THE STARVING PEOPLE.”
This is at a time when US has been supporting the naval, ground and air blockade of Yemen for more than three years preventing needed essential food and medical supplies to reach to the starving and dying Yemeni people in particular children, old people and those who are suffering from chronic diseases.
WHAT A FARCE AND POLITICAL PROSTITUTION THAT IS!!!!!!.
People of Venezuela cannot and will not be deceived by your “humanitarian aid” and the political price and conspiracy that come with it, besides being fully aware of the nature of this fake humanitarian aid when trucks designated for humanitarian aid coming from Colombia are loaded with weapons to initiate a civil war aiming at ‘regime change”, the preferred and integral foreign US policy.
It is no wonder that Elliot Abraham was appointed to the Trump’s administration to deal with the crises in Venezuela, one who is notorious for his criminal record in Latin America in particular in Nicaragua in the 80’s. The head of the US humanitarian aid program to the ‘rebels” of Nicaragua who were fighting the progressive Sandinista government mentioned long time ago ( NYT, Aug 15th 1987) that in two occasions at least his planes designated for humanitarian aid was loaded with weapons to the Contra in Central America under the directions of Elliot Abraham. An inquiry conducted by the Congress found that atrocities including murders, assassinations, kidnappings, assaults and torture of civilians was committed by the Contras ( the US-backed Nicaraguan rebels) ( Washington Post 7th March, 1985).
We also still remember the “humanitarian aid” that was coming from Turkey under the directives of the CIA to the besieged “rebels”, “the moderate Syrian opposition” the bunch of terrorist in Aleppo under the auspices of the UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura, which proved to be nothing but weapons to replenish that which was lost or used. That was also claimed to be going to the starving besieged ordinary citizens.
It is no wonder that many international organizations rejected the US requests to help in delivering the US aid. These organizations included the International Red Cross, the United Nations and the Catholic Church’s aid organization Caritas, and their refusal is based on their full awareness that this aid is highly politicized.
